Activities & Adventures in Derbyshire

Packhorse Farm Campsite is set in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside and enjoys panoramic views towards Riber Castle. Just ½ mile from Tansley village on Matlock Moor, our campsite is a perfect base for exploring the area.

There are many things to do in the heart of Derbyshire:

The Cookoostone Walk is a circular 3.5mile (5.6km) walk. Starting at the farm and passing through lovely countryside, this walk follows mainly tracks and roads – though walking boots or strong shoes are recommended especially during wetter months. The leaflet is available from reception.

Coarse fishing at Press Manor Fisheries and Longacre Lodge are only minutes away.

Carsington Water Reservoir, just 7 miles away, between Middleton-by Wirksworth and Ashbourne, has several ways to pass the day: play areas, boat hire, circular walk around the reservoir, bird watching and cycle hire.

The stunning Lumsdale Waterfalls are a 20 minute walk from the campsite. This wooded gorge with its natural flora and fauna, stone mills and spectacular waterfalls really are a photographers delight.

The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath has a very impressive cable car ride across the A6. Woodland Walks, caves and outdoor play areas are all included in the price.

Built in 1797 Heage Windmill is the only working stone towered multi sailed windmill in England. An interesting little walk for even little legs.

Horse riding is available 10 minutes away at Matlock Farm Park, a petting zoo with a difference and a fun day out for all the family.

Enjoy the scenery in any direction – Cycle hire is available from Parsley Hay (near Buxton), Middleton Top (near Cromford) and Mapleton Lane (near Ashbourne)
